International Cricket Council (ICC)

The ICC grew out of a handful of imperial-era matches and became the global steward of cricket’s modern identity, connecting nations, formats, and fan cultures into a single competitive bloodstream.

ICC Basics

  • Governs international cricket and oversees formats like Tests, ODIs, and T20 World Cups.
  • Regulates rankings, tournaments, and qualification pathways for cricketing nations.
  • Serves as the central link between domestic boards, global events, and developing nations.

How Cricket Works

Cricket is a bat-and-ball game where one team tries to score runs and the other tries to get batters out. The batting side hits the ball and runs between wickets, while the bowling side delivers the ball and sets a field to stop scoring. Matches can be long or short, but the core idea stays the same: score more runs than the other team while protecting your wickets.

League Rules & Structure

The ICC governs international cricket and sets rules for three formats: Tests, One-Day Internationals, and T20s. Member nations play bilateral series and qualify for ICC events through regional and global pathways. Matches follow universal rules for batting, bowling, overs, wickets, and fielding. Major tournaments like the Cricket World Cup bring the top teams together after qualification across multiple stages.
