Cricket in Mongolia

Cricket in Mongolia - culture, history, and development.

Cricket in Mongolia is new by international standards, but it has developed quickly. The Mongolia Cricket Association was established in 2007 in Ulaanbaatar, and the ICC lists Mongolia as an associate member. That formal recognition matters because it places Mongolia inside a real development pathway rather than leaving it as an informal outpost of the sport.

    Who plays cricket in Mongolia

The player base in Mongolia is not yet broad in the way it is in traditional cricket countries, but the structure is more serious than many people would assume. Cricket Mongolia says it runs an ongoing schools program in Ulaanbaatar and the provinces, supports community coaching, and has both men’s and women’s national teams. The ICC also notes that the outdoor season runs from May to September, with indoor junior cricket through the rest of the year.

    Cricket’s place in Mongolia today

Cricket remains a minority sport in Mongolia, but it is clearly a living development project rather than a novelty. The existence of national teams, school programs, community coaches, and ICC membership gives it a stronger institutional base than many non-traditional markets. Mongolia is still at an early stage, yet the sport already has a clearer growth model than one might expect in a country better known for wrestling, horse culture, and other established traditions.
