Cricket in Latvia is a modern growth story rather than a historic one. The Latvian Cricket Federation presents itself as the leading body for the sport in the country, and recent reporting in Latvian public media says the federation organizes a national championship with nine registered teams. That is important because it shows cricket in Latvia has moved beyond one-off social matches and into a more structured stage. The same reporting also noted Latvian participation in tournaments such as the Baltic Cup and Amber Cup, which places the country inside a wider regional cricket network.
Who plays cricket in Latvia
The current player base in Latvia still appears to be driven largely by residents from cricket-playing backgrounds rather than by a broad native Latvian sports culture. Latvian public media reported in 2025 that the national team existed but included no ethnic Latvians, which is a reminder that the sport remains socially narrow even as it grows organizationally. At the same time, a functioning federation, multiple club teams, and visible tournament activity suggest that the community is large enough to sustain regular competition. That makes Latvian cricket more organized than its social reach might first suggest.
Cricket’s place in Latvia today
Cricket is still a niche sport in Latvia, but it now has a more tangible footprint than many people would expect. The federation is promoting the game, a national championship is in place, and outside observers have even highlighted a new Latvian ground, Infinity Oval, as a sign of emerging infrastructure. Latvia is still far from the European cricket mainstream, but it has moved into the category of a small, active developing market rather than a country where cricket barely exists at all.
